Two notorious number plate thieves arrested in Rukungiri

The Police and other security agencies in Rukungiri have arrested two suspects for theft of number plates from areas of Rukungiri municipality.

The two suspects were identified by police as Mpamize Deus 32 years from Mitooma district and Muyambi Issah Mbumburi a resident of Nyabitete in Bugangari Sub County Rukungiri district.

The two were arrested after an intelligent search was launched following numerous complaints of residents about missing number plates from people’s vehicles and later demanding money from them.

Through further interrogations, the Rukungiri district Police Commander SSP. Musa Tibakirana noted that other members of this group are still at large and so the hunt is still on to have all arrested and brought to book.

 SSP. Tibakirana said that following the operation that led to the arrest of two, they were able to recover 4 number plates and were taken by owners.

DPC Tibakirana asked locals to report incidences to police so that they may be looked into, instead than encouraging the crime by giving money to those who steal number plates.

Some of the victims, including Turyamushangayo Wilson, a resident of Rwaribiri cell in the Rwakabengo ward’s southern division, Nsimomwe Garsom, chairperson of Katenga cell, and Arinda Precious Nabimanya, told our reporter that the thieves demanded large sums of money before releasing their number plates and thanked the police for their efforts in resulting in their arrest.
