Mbarara District councilors have tasked the district Chief Administrative Officer, to swiftly recover shillings 20 million donated by prime Minister Rhobinah Nabanja towards the construction of Bwizibwera Road side market from the District woman member of Parliament.
In 2022, the District woman Member of Parliament Margret Rwebyambu held a fundraising that was graced by the Prime Minister RhobinahNabanja for the construction of the market and over shillings, 50million was raised.
During a council sitting at Kamukuzi , councilors tasked the district Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) David Muhwezi to recover the funds which Premier RhobinahNabanja donated towards the construction of the market claiming its public funds.
Presiding over the council meeting, Venance Munanukye, the District speaker accused the legislator for disrespecting the 2019 financial and accounting regulations that was passed by Parliament.
Munanukye clarified that the money which was brought by the prime minister during the fundraising was for the public which should be accounted for by the chief administrative officer and it should be kept on the district account but not on the legislator’s bank account.
However, during a recent interview with journalists, MP Rwebyambu admitted to collecting around 60 million shillings from 17 MPs, locals, and the Prime Minister during the fundraising event.
Rwebyambu stated that she decided to keep the money on her personal account due to alleged sabotage by individuals in Mbarara District.
