Rukungiri Municipality yesterday, June 8, marked the fifth day of an enforcement exercise targeting the removal of temporary and illegal structures as part of the new trade order policy being implemented across urban centres in the country.

Speaking during the exercise, the Senior Physical Planner for Rukungiri Municipality, Vastine Kenganzi, urged residents to stop rebuilding structures without approval from the municipality. She warned that any unauthorized structures erected after the enforcement period will be demolished again, emphasizing that the municipality will not allow illegal developments to remain, regardless of the money or effort invested by property owners.

Kenganzi said the exercise is aimed at restoring order and ensuring that developments meet the required physical planning standards. She encouraged residents to follow proper procedures and work with the municipal authorities before undertaking any construction activities.

The Municipality’s Health Inspector, Evas Asiimwe, also advised residents planning to build structures to first consult municipal offices, noting that consultation services are provided free of charge. Asiimwe stressed that early consultation helps residents avoid future setbacks and ensures that structures are developed responsibly.

She further called on owners of structures that have been marked for demolition to remove them themselves, to prevent complications and additional consequences. The enforcement exercise is expected to continue over the coming days as the municipality tightens compliance with the trade order policy.
