RUKUNGIRI- Maj. Gen. Jim Katugugu Muhwezi, the Minister of Security and Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County, has urged the people of Rukungiri district to support candidates running on NRM (National Resistance Movement) tickets in 2026 if they want to get more from the government.
While under the leadership of opposition member Hon. Fred Turyamuhweza from 2016 to 2021, Rujumbura Constituency did not fully realize its growth potential, which disappointed Hon. Jim Muhwezi.
He explained that citizens should provide their support to NRM for greater representation and connections with offices where national resources are allocated and dispersed in order to benefit from government development projects like as better roads, hospitals, electricity, and schools, among others.
The disclosure was made by Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi on Sunday while serving as the chief guest at Bugangari Senior Secondary School’s fundraising to raise money for the renovation of classroom blocks that are in need of repair.
Speaking at the function, Minister Jim Muhwezi explained that because to a lack of strong pro-development leaders in the district or Parliament, Rukungiri district has missed out on the National Cake tapings for the past five years, from 2016 to 2021.
By occupying the spot where the cake is given, Muhwezi said, it is now simple to argue for the district’s necessities, such as roads, hospitals, schools, and power.
He urged residents of Rukungiri district to join hands with their leaders when 2026 rolls around so they may continue delivering such advancements as a group.
On the same function, the Rukungiri district Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata called on the parents to motivate their children to study in order for them to be able to harvest the fruits of education in future.
Additionally, she urged students to respect and listen to their parents since doing so will enable them to receive divine favors.
Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, a member of parliament for the Rukungiri municipality and an alumnus of Bugangari Secondary School, advised students to strive for their goals despite of the educational frameworks at their schools or their upbringings since doing so will ensure a good future for them.
Kwesiga Boaz Ruteera the chairperson organizing committee and the Bugangari Old student asked old students all over the world to keep in touch with their former schools and give them due support.
He compared schools to a loving mother who needs the tender care and support of her children when she grows old.
Since the majority of the teachers at Bugangari SS are paid by the school, Mr. Thembo Tiragana, the school’s head teacher, requested Minister Jim Muhwezi’s assistance in putting teachers on payroll.
He expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed and pledged to use the funds successfully for the intended purposes.
During the fundraising, more than Ugx. 50 million was collected.
