Rukungiri taxi operators warned against over speeding, over loading as festive season draws near

RUKUNGIRI- Taxi operators and owners have been urged to ensure discipline and develop the culture of saving as well as not solely looking at the transport sector as their only source of income, but to rather focus on diversifying their income sources and sustainability.

This was revealed yesterday by Kanyikirize Ikara Allon the chairperson South Western Taxi Owners and Drivers Association (SWETODA) in a meeting held at Rukungiri Inn Hotel in Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality attended by members from over 20 districts that constitute the association.

Kanyikirize called for unity and cooperation among taxi operators in ensuring a single voice that will enable them achieve their future plans. He added that they’re still traversing all districts under their jurisdiction, sensitizing taxi operators and owners about joining this association as it’s meant to develop them.

He appealed to all the road users to abide by traffic rules and regulations to ensure safety as festive season draws closer.

Joshua Kazooba, the Chairperson for Rukungiri taxi Drivers Society urged taxi drivers to abide by traffic regulations stressing that many of them normally carry excess passengers, driving while they’re drunk as well as over speeding, all that might lead them to penalties and loss of live during this festive season.

SWETODA is an umbrella that was formed in 2008 to promote, coordinate and protect the interests of motor vehicle owners and drivers. Based in Mbarara, the association oversees operations in Mbarara, Ntungamo, Kabale, Kisoro, Rukungiri, Kanungu, Kasese, Bushenyi, Ibanda, Isingiro and Kiruhura.
