RUKUNGIRI- One person has been confirmed dead after a head on collision in Rukungiri Municipality.
The accident according to Kigezi Region Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate, happened on Saturday 5th April 2025 at around 1551hrs at Katogo Cell, Nyamayenje ward, Eastern Division Rukungiri Municipality/ district along Rukungiri – Ntungamo Road.
Maate told the press that the accident involved a motorcycle registration number UGE 632B, Bajaj Boxer ridden by one Atamba Praise and UFQ 826A Bajaj Boxer ridden by one Niwabine Emmanuel, now the deceased.
Police records indicate that 43 year old Niwabine Emmanuel, a Businessman resident of Bugarama Cell, Kahoko Parish, Nyakagyeme sub county in Rukungiri district.
Atamba Praise, who is currently grappling with injuries is resident of Kanyamutwe cell, Kebisoni town Council in Rukungiri district.
ASP Maate adds that, when Niwabine Emmanuel was from fueling his motorcycle from Tuja Petrol Station, he made a sudden entrance into the road facing the direction to Rukungiri town.
It’s at this point that Niwabine collided with rider Atamba Praise who was riding from the direction of Rukungiri town towards Kebisoni.
After the Collision, both riders sustained serious injuries and Niwabine Emmanuel was later pronounced dead at Karoli Lwanga Hospital Nyakibale in Rukungiri Municipality while Atamba Praise is still under medical attention at a yet to be known health facility.
According to the Regional Police mouthpiece, the officers visited the scene of crime, drew Sketch plan and recorded relevant statements at the scene.
ASP Maate adds that CCTV Footage at Tuja Petrol Station clearly captured the scene and a request made to retrieve the same was made, the deceased’s body was taken to Rwakabengo health centre III Mortuary where a postmortem examination was conducted.
The Police have since initiated investigations into the accident cause but primarily attribute it to sudden entrance into the road by the deceased. Both motorcycles are currently parked at CPS Rukungiri pending IOV.
