RUKUNGIRI-As Rwenshaka Sacco stolen money scandals rage on, the manager has been directed to hand over tools as investigations into the matter continue.
In last week’s meeting chaired by the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen, DISO Christopher Wachaya, Ruhinda sub county chairperson Helen Kabajungu and Sacco Board members, it was resolved that the manager hands over office since he has been holding the same position by the time money got lost.
On Friday 14th January 2022, RDC Nsubuga directed the arrest of Muzoora Esau who was working as the cashier of the Sacco and Nabibasa Angline the Records officer for allegedly embezzling over UGX 29M meant for Rwenshaka Cooperative Savings and Credit Society found in Ruhinda Sub County Rukungiri district.
On Saturday last week, RDC accompanied by the DISO met the board members and the Sacco manager Atuhaire Alex was directed to hand over office to the loans officer Musimenta Fred as the Sacco prepares to get substantive staff.
He confided to our reporter that Saccos are being killed by the employees not members thus cautioning them that he will be tough on whoever tries to embezzle community funds.
Bekunda Johns the chairperson of the Sacco explained that the suspects are now using big people to convince the public and Sacco members that the current staff is the one behind the embezzling of the Sacco money such that it can collapse immediately.
He however said that since the district leadership has intervened, auditors will do the needful and the truth will finally be revealed. He urged Sacco members to continue saving with them confirming that they are ready to serve them accordingly.
In his handover speech, Atuhurire noted that there is a lot of propaganda about this Sacco in Ruhinda Sub County stressing that it’s the main issue killing it.
Meanwhile the RDC and DISO’s attendance on the manager’s handover comes after receiving numerous calls that the chairperson board Mr. Bekunda Johns and manager Atuhurire Alex used to spend long hours inside the Sacco after the announcement of the handover leaving many people confused that there must be something wrong.
Rwenshaka Cooperative Savings and Credit Society started in 2003 but in 2014 and 2015, workers by then also embezzled over 480M and they escaped without even handing over.
The current situation reminds people of what happened before, thinking that the Sacco might collapse again.
