NEWS- Rukungiri Municipality engineering department staff have been strongly warned by Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen to cease from using loam dirt as marrum while rehabilitating roads.
Bewayo sounded the warning after leading a team of Rukungiri Municipality executive committee and technocrats on a monitoring visit to the project sites yesterday.
The roads which are currently being worked on include Makobore-Kakonkoma, Marumba-Kyeshero and Kafunjo Bridge all in Southern division, Ruruku/Lorrycon, Kapalaga and Makerere roads in Western division Rukungiri municipality.
Others are Karere-Kiziko and Kicence roads in Eastern division Rukungiri municipality.
RDC Bewayo expressed concern over the use of substandard materials including marram and absence of off shots on some roads which he said that must be fixed with immediate effect.

His Worship Charles Makuru, the Rukungiri Municipal mayor disclosed that numerous roadways have been opened to prevent slams, despite maintenance being a concern.
Makuru stressed that 80% of the roads that are currently accessible have undergone rehabilitation and are in good condition, pledging to ensure that the remaining ones are also attended to.

Emmy Turyabagyenyi, the Rukungiri Municipal Council chairperson for works, asked residents to keep an eye on these projects and report shoddy work since rehabilitations are being done for the good of their communities.
Turyabagyenyi expressed gratitude to the Ugandan government for funding the rehabilitation of roads and bridges, which facilitate the movement of goods and services.
