The Rukungiri District Woman Member of Parliament, Natukunda Midius Kaharata, on Friday 19th August 2022 donated a total of 150 piglets (50 boars and 100 gilts) to 75 different organized groups within the district as a way to improve their household income and eradicate from poverty.

The piglets were handed over to the beneficiaries on a function that was witnessed by the Rukungiri district commercial officer, district veterinary officer, and Chief administrative officer among others that held at Rukungiri district headquarters.

Hon Natukunda revealed that she lobbied the piglets from the different government agencies to these groups with the intention of boosting their household incomes and eradicate from poverty.

She narrated that the first beneficiaries are expected to share the piglets with their colleagues when they give birth in a rotational manner.

Natukunda encouraged the beneficiaries not to sell given gilts but rather own them in eradicating poverty from their homes.

She added that they will monitor and supervise beneficiaries thus encouraging them to be committed in taking care of the donation if it’s to serve its intended purpose.

The Rukungiri district veterinary officer Dr. Ninsiima Johnson asked the beneficiaries to feed their gilts on balanced diet if they are to benefit from them within a shortest period of time.

Ninsiima cautions beneficiaries to limit visitors in their farms to avoid infecting their piglets with diseases.

Turyakira Venerander and Miriam Katungyisa some of beneficiaries whom our reporter interacted with showed optimism that the donation will get them out of vicious circle of poverty to self-reliant citizens.
