NEWS– It was all chaos characterized with abductions, arrests and live bullets as the Kawempe North by election nomination process commenced.
The day started with a heavy security deployment with JAT security officers fully armed and dressed in hoods that covered all their faces looking all ready for the ‘war’ the act that worried citizens.
Early in the morning, the opposition National Unity Platform cried the abduction of their Kawempe North mobilisation chairman Sserubiri Charles who was also the political assistant to their party candidate Luyimbazi Elias Nalukoola whom they said was taken away by security officers together with all the nomination documents.
And later in the day, the NUP candidate Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi was also arrested shortly after being nominated and was swiftly taken to Kawempe police station.
The act of Nalukoola’s arrest sparked protests with his supporters throwing stones to which security responded with live bullets and this left some people with injuries.
Regardless of all the above, at the end of the day four candidates were successfully nominated for the seat.
The nominated includes the NUP’s Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi, Mukiibi Sadat of the FDC and the independents Luwemba Lusswa Muhammed and Hanifa Karadi Murerwa.
The Kawempe North constituency seat in Kampala district of Uganda fell vacant following the death of the incumbent Hon. Mohammad Ssegirinya.
