Rukungiri District Gears Up to Celebrate Belated International Women’s Day

NEWS- Rukungiri District is preparing to join the global community in commemorating a belated International Women’s Day on April 24, 2025, under the theme “Accelerate Action for Gender Equality.” The event will be held at Bugangari Playgrounds in Bugangari Sub-county, and will honor the achievements, contributions, and resilience of women across the district.

Although the official International Women’s Day was marked worldwide on March 8, 2025, Rukungiri’s celebration offers an opportunity to reflect on progress made, amplify the voices of women, and reinforce collective efforts toward achieving gender equality at all levels.

The district proudly aligns itself with this global movement, emphasizing the importance of empowering women in political, social, and economic spheres. This celebration highlights both the milestones achieved and the ongoing efforts required to ensure equal opportunities for all.

The District leadership extends sincere gratitude to the Members of Parliament from Rukungiri for their generous support and unwavering commitment to making this event a success. Special appreciation also goes out to Child Development Centers, schools across the district, and all the individuals and organizations who are contributing to the preparations of this important day.We continue to call upon wellwishers to continue extending in their support.

Women in Rukungiri continue to benefit from various government programs such as the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP), which aims to economically and socially empower women. These initiatives have provided access to financial resources, skills training, and mentorship, enabling many women to start and grow businesses, contribute to the local economy, and uplift their communities.

The event is expecred to be graced by the Minister of Security, Major General Jim Muhwezi, as Guest of Honour. He will share insights on the role of women in nation-building and the critical importance of advancing gender equality.
