NEWS– Boda boda riders in Kampala Metropolitan Area are to be dressed in uniform identifier reflector jackets.

This is according to the Ministry of works and transport and Minister Gen. Edward Kalumba Wamala.

According to Katumba Wamala, the jackets will include a photo, name and contacts of the rider with a QR code and will also be color of coded according to the various divisions.

These details will also sync with the details of the motorcycle being ridden, these include the  registered number plate.

The colour code examples include Pink for Kampala Central, Dark blue for Makindye, Forest Green for Nakawa.

In addition, the ministry of works and transport consultative meeting with motorcycle assembling companies, dealers and financiers agreed that all motorcycle sales are to include 2 standard helmets one for the rider and another one for the passenger.

“Regulations for the standardization of helmets are already in place and these must be strictly adhered to for any motorcycle to get registered”, Gen. Katumba Wamala cautioned UNBS.

He noted that this is one of the measures being put in place to streamline the boda-boda industry and return sanity to Ugandan roads.
