Uganda Prisons commence third intermediate command & staff course

NEWS- The Uganda Prisons Service has on  27th November 2024 commenced its third Intermediate Command and Staff Course.

The six-month intensive program at the Prisons Academy and Training School in Luzira aims at equipping middle-line managers ranging from the rank of Principal Officers to Senior Superintendent of Prisons with the necessary skills to assume strategic leadership roles within the service.

The course which boasts a record number of 60 participants is designed to enhance leadership, critical thinking, decision-making, and communication skills.

By undergoing this rigorous training, participants will be better prepared to address the evolving challenges and opportunities within the prison service.

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr. Apolo Baker Asinjah, Commissioner of Prisons (Human Resource Planning and Development), emphasized the service’s commitment to professionalization. 

He highlighted the rigorous selection process based on merit and urged participants to strive for excellence and maintain the highest standards of discipline and hard work.

Ms. Mary Centinary, Assistant Commissioner of Prisons (Ag. Commandant PATS) , assured participants of the training school’s capacity to deliver a high-quality program.

The school’s experienced directing staff, tutors, and partnerships with institutions like Makerere University and UMI will contribute to the course’s success.
