There was joy and happiness today 10th March 2023 afternoon as thousands of Christians in the Diocese of North Kigezi gathered at Kahengye, river that borders Rukungiri and Ntungamo districts to welcome the 6th Bishop-elect Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe.
The road from Kahengye to Rukungiri town was full of welcoming vehicles, bands, and Christians, hence paralyzing traffic jam.
The procession was led by the North Kigezi Diocesan caretaker Bishop Patrick Tugume Tusingweire, former archbishop of Church of Uganda Emeritus Henry Luke Orombi, Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, RDC Rukungiri district Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen, Rukungiri district LC5 chairman in the company of other religious leaders in and outside North Kigezi diocese.
Speaking briefly to Christians at Kahengye in Kebisoni town council Rukungiri district, Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe commended Christians of North Kigezi diocese for the warm welcome to Rukungiri.
He revealed that is there to spread God’s gospel of love, forgiveness and unity amongst Christians of North Kigezi.
Rev. Bishop Elect Onesmus Asiimwe, will be consecrated and enthroned as the 6th bishop of the North Kigezi diocese on Sunday 12th March 2023 at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano in Southern division Rukungiri municipality.
The function will be presided over by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, assisted by several bishops from all over the country, and the Chief Guest is expected to be President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
