The State House through Faruk Kirunda the Deputy Press Secretary to the President of the Republic of Uganda has spoken out on reports that former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi has been appointed the Governor of Bank of Uganda (BOU).
Today Saturday, July 30, reports that Mbabazi, a former secretary general of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), has been appointed the governor of Uganda’s central bank spread like wildfire on social media.
The BoU governor position fell vacant in January 2022 after the death of Prof Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, who had held the position for many years.
For six months now, President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has not appointed any replacement for Mutebile.
Now, social media rumors claimed that Mbabazi has been appointed the new governor.
Kirunda said that President Museveni was yet to appoint a new Bank of Uganda governor.
“It is not true that H.E the President has appointed a new Governor, BOU,” said Kirunda on Saturday, July 30.
“In case such an appointment is made, the public will be informed through official channels.”
In February 2022, a senior political analyst told Ugandans not to be surprised if Amama Mbabazi replaces Museveni as president soon. (Read Story
