NEWS-Uganda People’s Defence Forces UPDF in Rukungiri have asked the general public to work hand in hand with all security agencies for continuity of peace and development in the country.
The call was made by Lt. Col. Robert Nahamya the 19th UPDF battalion Commander in Rukungiri District as the forces carried out social activities together with Police and civilians in Bikurungu Town Council in Rukungiri district as they prepare to commemorate the 41st Tarehe Sita Anniversary.

The commemoration is annually done in remembrance of NRA’s struggle that started on 6th February 1981 and this year’s Tarehe Sita will run under the theme “Retracing the peoples’ struggle for peace and security for a modern Uganda”.
While enumerating a number of activities that included sanitation within Bikurungu town, Bikurungu health center (III) and Bwambara trading centre plus donation of drinks to patients at Bikurungu health center (III) and medical outreaches, Lt. Col. Nahamya revealed that as UPDF, such activities are a token of appreciation to the people of Uganda for their contribution to the liberation struggle.

Nahamya noted that such activities are always done in commemorating Tarehe Sita so that people can and grow sense of ownership of the country’s army.
On the same function, the Rukungiri District Police Commander (DPC) SP. Musa Tibakirana appreciated the good work done by the UPDF in promoting peace and security within the country and the relationship made with other security agencies like Police and intelligence sects.

He however congratulated the UPDF upon the achievements explaining that it has been a journey of transformation comparing the two UPDF of 1981 and the current one especially in their interaction with local community.
The Bwambara sub county Chairperson Chris Kagayano encouraged people to ensure cleanliness in their homes and business centres as they have been motivated by the UPDF.
