RUKUNGIRI! 88-year old man strangled to death, two family members arrested

The Police in Rukungiri district have in custody two suspects on allegations of strangling an 88 year old man to death.

Speaking to journalists Kigezi Region Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate identified the deceased as Wilson Kabarande a resident of Kiguha Cell, Kahoko Parish in Nyakageme sub county, Rukungiri district.

Maate adds that the suspects are Kellen Tindizira, the wife of the deceased and her granddaughter Akatwijuka Sheila, a tailor, all residents of Nyakageme  sub county Rujumbura County in Rukungiri district. 

According to Police, on Tuesday September 27 at around 1:37hrs, the deceased’s wife Tindizira reported a case of suicide by handing at Rwerere Police post alleging that the  husband was sick and that on monday night at around 9PM left his marital bed to rest outside with a bed sheet after feeling much heat in the house.

Maate revealed that shortly, the wife moved outside to check on him and she claims she found him hanging on guava tree in a bed sheet already dead.

The police spokesperson said that when police visited the scene, they doubted claims that the deceased hanged himself because the neck was not stiff and the body was in kneeling position, while the guava tree was too young, small and not bent neither broken, plus the mouth and eyes all were closed without any sign of hanging in the neck.

Maate says upon suspicion the two were arrested for questioning while the body was taken to Rwakabengo health centre III for post mortem.
