Minister Muhwezi supports Rukungiri NRM mobilisers with Ugx. 20 Million

RUKUNGIRI- The Rujumbura County area Member of Parliament who is also the Minister for Security Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi has asked people to avoid the politics of sectarianism and instead promote the politics of development based on human needs.

Minister Jim Muhwezi made the call today during the official launch of Rukungiri NRM Mobilizers Association at Rukungiri Inn Hotel in Easter Division Rukungiri Municipality.

The launch was attended by Rukungiri district Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata, Municpality MP Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa and a section of those intending to contest for several seats including Rubabo’s Mathious Mwesigwa Rwabugumi, Mujuni Lawrence Mpitsi, Alex Bob Rugonde, Doreen Busingye Muheru, Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo, former Rukungiri district chairperson LC5 Andrewson Katebire among others.

Others included Geoffrey Kyomukama the Rukungiri district boss and Rukungiri Municipality aspiring Mayor Boaz Kamusiime Matita. While addressing the congregation, Hon. Jim Muhwezi dashed at leaders promoting politics of identity and hatred stressing that they are enemies of development and the country at large hence asking the public to shun these candidates.

Muhwezi said that leaders should preach unity and development other than dwelling on someone’s religion or tribe, narrating that past governments collapsed because of this mentality of sectarian politics. He contributed 20M shillings towards the development of the association.

Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata advised that before mobilizing people for politics, people should first establish groups and collaborate to increase household income.

Mbaasa Robert the chairperson of Rukungiri NRM Mobilizers Association said that this was formed to promote unity and cooperation amongst members within the association.

Mbaasa continued that in Rukungiri district, there used to be a lot of mobilizers, but they were unable to coordinate with one another, so they had to unite as a group to mobilize support for their candidates in the general elections in 2026.
