Rubaare secondary to lose a building after lightening strike

NTUNGAMO- Rubaare secondary school in Rubaare town council, Ntungamo district are on verge of losing the boys dormitory building after Criminal Investigation Department of police ordered demolition of the building after visiting the scene.

According to the headteacher Rubaare secondary school, Ms Mpeirwe Monic Atukunda, the Criminal Investigation Department visited the burnt dormitory and due to the cracks observed, they advised them to demolish the building and construct a new one.

On Saturday September 28th, 2024, during the ceremony of pass out of 927 patriots at her school, Mpeirwe appealed to the government to construct more structures since they are overwhelmed by the increasing number of students.

She said it was uncertain that as they were waiting to get more structures from the government when one of the buildings they had was struck by lightening during a Friday heavy down power on 15th November 2024.

She also noted that, not only the school lost the entire building; students also lost their belongings like all clothes, beddings, water fetching, washing and bathing materials, stationary among others.

Ms Mpeirwe the headteacher appeals to the school well-wishers, CSOs, NGOs concerned stakeholders, to forward any assistance no matter little it is, because one by one makes a bundle.

 A student who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity said some students lost their monies like up keep and school fees.

The headteacher of the school confirmed to our reporter that properties of 146 students were reduced to ashes during the dormitory fire and they are soon producing the estimate of money for the lost properties including the building.
