Over 145 lawyers enrolled as Advocates of the High Court

NEWS– Over 145 lawyers have been enrolled as advocates of the High Court.

This was in an event held on 17th October 2024 at Uganda Judiciary headquarters in Kampala.

Mr. Anthony Asiimwe, the Uganda Law society vice president who represented the President Isaac Ssemakadde joined Uganda Judiciary and the council to preside over the enrollment function.

In his remarks, the Vice President Anthony Asiimwe welcomed the newly enrolled advocates and implored them to embrace the new dawn that the bar fraternity recently decided to front.

“I welcome you to the Radical New Bar as you await deployment instructions from the RNB President to fight for the independence of the judiciary and the legal profession. Today, you are enrolling into a bar that is not only rooted in tradition but is also aligned with progressive principles.

 He hinted them on the ‘Radical New Bar’ premised core values of Decolonization, Demilitarization, Democratization and DigitalTransformation.

According to him, these principles are essential to the evolution of their legal profession and society at large.

Further still, the Vice President encouraged all the advocates to all be bold and proactive, seek opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to society. 

Asiimwe rallied the advocates to consider offering their services through legal aid and pro bono work and give back to the community and society at large

“There can be no equal justice where the kind of trial a man gets depends on the money he has”…consider offering pro bono services to the needy,” added the Vice President.

As the Radical New Bar takes over the mantle of the National Bar Association, the Vice President rallied the advocates to stand firm, hold fort and evade cowardice while executing the 4-Ds mandate which is set to redeem the bar fraternity and kick off an independent journey for the next 60 years.
