NEWS- The Ministry of Education and Sports is set to deregister Jozan Nursery and Primary School in Soroti City.

The move by the Ministry follows the death of Joan Faith Apio (5), who was allegedly murdered for rituals and her body was found in the school staff latrine!

The development was on Friday 7th March 2025 revealed by Mr. Francis Atima from the Directorate of Education Standards at the Ministry of Education and Sports during his visit to the school premises.

In connection to the murder, 8 suspects were earlier arrested and remanded and these included 2 School Directors Joseph Okedi and Suzan Vivian Ariokot Okedi, Headteacher James Edoket, Police Officer John Bosco Obotol, School Matron Osula Adong, School Cook Valentine Opio and two juveniles from the school who were remanded at a juvenile facility.

It is alleged that on Thursday 6th March 2025, angry residents set the school on fire in protest after the Magistrate decided that the suspects should appear via zoom instead of being produced physically in Court.

The move prompted Atima’s visit to the school on Friday and met the city leaders where a consensus was reached that the school should be closed and deregistered.

He assured the area leaders and angry residents of his move write to the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education requesting the withdraw of all registration certificates.
