20 People Arrested in Rukungiri for Flouting Covid-19 guidelines.

RUKUNGIRI-Police in Rukungiri last night arrested 20 people, impounded two motorcycles and three vehicles for allegedly flouting guidelines that were put in place to curb the spread of deadly Covid-19 including the 7pm to 5:30am curfew.

The OC operations at Rukungiri Central Police station ASP. Walubo Benon confirmed the development and said the public is not aware that curfew is still on and have gone ahead to move and operate businesses beyond the allowed time.

ASP. Walubo added that the operation was to remind people that Covid-19 guidelines are still on and the culprits will on Thursday this week be taken to court and charged accordingly.

He however said that police will continue to ensure that the covid-19 guidelines are implemented by the public, and in that regard, boda bodas must end their operations at 6pm, general public movement and business to stop at 7pm, with the exception of journalists and health professionals among other essential workers.

Walubo cautioned the general public to adhere covid-19 guidelines confirming that no one will be released after his or her arrest but rather taken to court and face the law.

Meanwhile President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will tomorrow address the nation on the step to follow related to covid-19.

Slated for 8pm, the presidential address on Covid-19 will give an update on the country’s fight against the Novel virus and related issues Senior Presidential Press Secretary Lindah Nabusayi confirmed.
