RUKUNGIRI- Security Minister and Rujumbura County Member of Parliament Hon Maj. Gen. Jim Katugugu Muhwezi has emphasized the importance of discipline and academic focus for students to achieve success in life.
Hon. Jim Muhwezi made the revelation yesterday as he was being honored by parents, teachers, students and stakeholders for advocating for St. Joseph’s Secondary School Rushaasha to a government aided institution in a function held at school premises in Rushasha Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub County Rukungiri district.
The day commenced with a mass led by Rev. Fr. Dr. Julius Turyatoranwa, Dean Nyakibale Deanery, inspection of the school and later thanksgiving to praise Minister Jim Muhwezi for lobbying for this school to be considered as government aided one.
Addressing the congregation, Muhwezi highlighted that dedication to studies is a crucial factor in ensuring a prosperous future, regardless of the school attended urging students to be disciplined, prayerful and hardworking if they are to be successful in life.
Hon. Jim Muhwezi also advised residents of Rukungiri district to embrace the government initiative of Parish Development Model (PDM) to empower themselves economically.
He contributed 200 pieces of iron sheets to roof boys’ and girls’ dormitories which are under construction. Jim Muhwezi pledged to lobby from UCC 60 computers required for the school ICT lab.

Mary Marriet Kemigisha, the head teacher of St. Joseph’s Rushaasha Secondary School stated that they chose to hold thanksgiving in an effort to honor Hon. Jim Muhwezi, who made significant contributions to the school’s growth, including being taken up by the government.

In his sermon, Rev. Fr. Dr. Julius Turyatoranwa, Dean Nyakibale Deanery who led the mass urged parents to ensure that their children have access to education.

During the event, Doroviko Kamugisha, the former chairperson board of governors, said that the school began with just 128 students in 2002 and that, as of now, over 1300 enrolled.
Kamugisha commended Hon. Jim Muhwezi for his outstanding efforts since the school’s establishment, citing his donation of 600 iron sheets to the construction of several facilities.
