Another woman killed by lover in Buhweju

BUHWEJU- The Police in Bushenyi District are investigating a tragic incident has occurred in Buhweju District, where a 27-year-old woman died after being beaten by her jealous lover.

According to SSP Marcial Tumusiime the greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesman, the deceased is Ankunda Evas, a resident of Nyakishenyi Village, Rukiri Parish, Bihanga Sub-County.

It is said that the suspect, Tayebwa Richard alias Kyoojo, a 26-year-old peasant from Kitega 1 Village, Kitega Parish, Bitsya Sub-County, had been in a romantic relationship with the deceased. However, on April 4, 2025, Kyoojo discovered that she was cheating on him with another man.

In a fit of rage, he grabbed Ankunda from a bar at Bitsya Trading Centre and beat her until she was rescued by locals.

Ankunda, (now the deceased) was taken to Nsiika Health Centre IV and later referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on April 10, 2025. The police were informed, and a team of detectives, along with the State of Crime (SOCO) officers, visited the scene, examined, and documented it.

The suspect was arrested and is currently in police custody. Statements have been recorded from witnesses, and a post-mortem examination was conducted at Mbarara Hospital.

SSP Martial Tumusime, the Police Public Relations Officer for Bushenyi District, confirmed the incident and urged anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.

“We take these incidents very seriously and are committed to ensuring justice is served,” he said.

The investigation revealed that the deceased was in a love relationship with the suspect and had been beaten and pulled on the road by him, with several witnesses present. The deceased had bruises all over her body.

The police are continuing their inquiries, and the case is being investigated. The suspect is facing charges of murder, and the case will be prosecuted in court.

This incident highlights the dangers of domestic violence and the need for communities to address issues of jealousy and possessiveness. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.

This comes after another woman died in Mbarara on similar allegations of domestic violence by her husband.
