Mbarara city’s MUST risks closure over dilapidated infrastructure

NEWS– Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), a public university in Mbarara City risks closure due to deteriorating infrastructure.

This is according to warning from the officials from the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC) and the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (UNCHE).

UMDPC Vice Chairman Ayubu Twaaha who was speaking the media after assessment over the weekend noted that this was the fifth assessment without major improvements.

He cites the lack of essential biomedical science laboratories which he said is a threat to medical training.

He noted that the university is at risk of being shut down due to its failure to comply with essential operating standards. 

Officials from the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC)) have noted that the university’s infrastructure is inadequate. 

The officials previously expressed his concerns regarding the quality of the university’s facilities and the absence of laboratory tools during an inspection. 

If the university does not resolve these issues, it may face repercussions that could disrupt student learning.
