Man Kills Wife over Land in Rukungiri, Angry Mob Clobbers Him to Death

NEWS-The Police in Rukungiri district are investigations circumstances under which two people were murdered in cold blood.

According to SP Musa Tibakirana, the Rukungiri District Police Commander, the incident occurred yesterday in Bugarama village, Kahoko Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub-county in Rukungiri district and the deceased identified as Stidia Turyatunga 35 and 57 year old David Turyahikayo a resident of Kyegegwa district.

SP Tibakirana revealed that brief facts established by police indicate that the two were a couple but developed disagreements which forced the man to shift to Kyegegwa with another woman about 6 years ago. Turyahikayo is said to have reappeared in Nyakagyeme on 10th November 2021 with plans of selling off the entire family land and shifting Turyatunga and their children to Kyegegwa.

Tibakirana adds that on 1st December 2021 at around 11:30Am, Turyahikayo received money from a neighbour only identified as Allan and a land sale agreement was made but the wife objected and refused to sign on it before she moved to her garden.

It is further alleged that after her refusal, the buyer (Allan) moved away with his money which annoyed the husband who got a panga, sharpened it, proceeded to the garden where she found the wife and cut her all over the body. The residents organised and rushed the wife to Nyakibale hospital where she later died from at around 5pm on the same day.

The incident of the woman’s death angered the yet to be identified residents who also traced for the husband, killed him, carried his body from the scene and locked it in the couples’ isolated home where the late wife had vacated to rent in the trading center. SP Tibakirana stressed that upon receiving information, Police visited the two scenes of crime and took the bodies to Nyakibale Hospital and Rwakabengo Health Center respectively pending postmortem.

The case of double murder has been recorded at Rukungiri CPS on reference number CRB 1595/2021.
