Over 15 activits arrested in Kampala anti-EACOP protests

NEWS– The police have arrested over 15 people in the protests against East African Crude Oil Pipeline EACOP project.

The arrested is a group of activists, part of the “Students Against Eacop Uganda” movement, have been arrested in Kampala.

The activists were protesting the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (Eacop) and were arrested in front of  Parliament.

The pipeline which is a joint venture between TotalEnergies, CNOOC, and the Ugandan government is designed to transport oil from Uganda to Tanzania.

The protest coincided with the start of the COP29 climate summit in Baku, Azerbaijan, highlighting concerns about the project’s environmental impact.

By press time, police was yet to issue an official statement about the same.
