The territorial police in Kabale are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man known only as Biryabarema, who is suspected to have been murdered. The incident occurred in Buhoro village, located in Rwene parish, Buhara sub-county, Kabale district.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, the exact date and time of the incident remain unclear. However, it was reported that on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, around 1:31 PM, Biryabarema’s body was discovered in a sorghum plantation owned by a local resident, Naturinda Joan. She had gone to inspect her plantation when she stumbled upon the grim scene.
Upon making the shocking discovery, Naturinda quickly informed her neighbors about the situation. Following their advice, she reported the incident to the local police at Rwene police post, which subsequently escalated the matter to the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kabale.
A team of police officers from Kabale CPS promptly visited the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. They processed the area, examined the evidence, and documented their findings. Statements were collected from relatives, community leaders, and local residents to piece together the events leading up to Biryabarema’s death.
While the investigation is still ongoing, the police have confirmed that the body was retrieved from the crime scene and transported to the Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. This will help determine the cause of death and provide further insights into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Local residents expressed their shock and concern over the incident, as such violent acts are relatively rare in the area. Many are calling for increased police presence and community safety measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
