The Kiira region’s police are looking for the family members of six deceased people, whose identities and places of origin are still unknown.
Four of the fatalities were victims of mob justice, and the other two were found in Jinja city’s vicinity of Lake Victoria and the River Nile following events involving drowning.
Currently awaiting postmortem exams, these victims, whose cases were reported at Jinja CPS between late October and November 10th, 2023, are lying in the morgue of Jinja Regional Referral Hospital.
The Kiira Regional police spokesperson, James Mubi, voiced worry that the death inquiry is not moving forward quickly enough and that this is a hindrance.
A postmortem examination has been scheduled with pathologists at the Jinja Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary due to the unidentified deceased.
He said that if any family members come forward, the results can be presented to them. The Jinja city government has consented to set aside area for temporary interment.
Mubi asked anyone who had missing family members to get in touch with the Kiira region’s Homicide department so they could help identify the deceased.
In a related event, a mortuary worker discussed the difficulty presented by unclaimed bodies while speaking anonymously owing to legal restrictions.
He mentioned that there are only two freezers that can hold four bodies at once. He clarified that due to a lack of storage space, the remaining bodies are kept on concrete bars or the ground.
