Missing Rukungiri boy found dead, body dumped in swamp

RUKUNGIRI- A 6-year -old boy, who went missing on Tuesday from his parental home in Eastern division Rukungiri municipality, has been found dead after three days of relentless search.

The deceased has been identified as Akatusinguza Isaiah, the son of Mushabiru Robert, a resident of Kamuri cell, Kasozi parish in Eastern Division Rukungiri Municipality and the body was found dumped in Rwobusisi village, Kyamakanda parish, Buyanja Sub County in Rukungiri district.

The body was discovered on today morning by a young boy who had gone to graze a cow in the said area. According to Mushabiru Robert the father to the deceased, his son went missing on Tuesday evening when he had gone to fetch water from a nearby spring.

Mushabiru revealed that after waiting for the boy return but all, together with the area residents mounted a hunt that took them the whole night of fruitless recovery. On fearing that his son was kidnapped, Mushabiru on Wednesday morning reported the case of disappearance of his child to the police.

The Rwobusisi village chairperson Nyehangane Polycarp revealed that he was informed about the incident on Friday morning and in turn informed the police about the matter. He however encouraged people to take care of their children especially during this hard of covid 19 where they are locked down.

Jane Tumushabe, Mugowa Fred and Kabegambire Emmanuel some of the residents condemned such criminal acts in their area calling upon security agencies to hunt down such criminals so that they are produced to courts of laws and charged accordingly.

Detectives from Rukungiri Central Police Station led by CID ASP. Nasuuna Harriet visited the crime scene where the body was retrieved and taken to Rwakabengo health center III for postmortem. Nasuuna faulted parents for ‘laxity towards their children’, noting that if they had not allowed him to move during wee hours of evening, perhaps the death could not have happened.

One person has since been arrested to help the police in investigations.
