Hospital closed, health workers evacuated to isolation centre over Ebola

NEWS– A health facility in Wakiso district has been closed following the confirmation of Ebola outbreak.

The closed is Saidina Islamic Hospital in Matugga, Wakiso District and was closed on 4th February 2025 by the district authorities.

While talking to our reporter, Dr. Emmanuel Mukisa the Wakiso District Health Officer noted that following the closure of the heath facility all health workers have been evacuated to an isolation center in Mulago.

All this follows the confirmation that an Ebola victim visited the hospital before dying at Mulago National Referral Hospital on 29th January, 2025.

The confirmed case, designated as the index case, was a 32-year-old male nurse, an employee of Mulago National Referral Hospital who initially developed fever-like symptoms and sought treatment at multiple health facilities.

Dr Mukisa, the Wakiso District Health Officer (DHO) stated that arrangements are also being made to close Ele’ama Clinic in Nabweru after reports surfaced that the victim had sought treatment there as well.
