RUKUNGIRI- North Kigezi Diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe has issued a stern warning ahead of the 2026 general elections, banning religious leaders from engaging in partisan politics.

Bishop Onesimus made the revelation yesterday during the installation of Ven. Amos and his wife Catherine Katushabe as the new Archdeacon of Kyabugashe Archdeaconry in Nyakagyeme Sub County Rukungiri district under North Kigezi Diocese.

As the country heads to 2026 general elections, Bishop Onesimus in his sermon noted that most religious leaders have a long history of taking sides in politics; a practice he said mislead the flock and vowed to bring it to an end.

The man of God exhorted heads of laity to maintain vigilance, safeguard the church, foster harmony and peace both during and after the election season.

Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe urged religious leaders to build foundations in the places where they carry out God’s work, particularly in spreading the gospel.
