Rukungiri district residents have commended Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata, their Woman legislator, for being named one of the 11th Parliament of Uganda’s best-performing MPs.

Hon. Natukunda was placed 106th out of 553 Members of Parliament based on data that was made public and showed how they performed in plenary from June 2023 to April 2024.

Hon. Midius Natukunda addressed a variety of topics on the floor of Parliament during several plenary sessions that have an impact on both her electorates and the nation as a whole.

Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata brought up a number of issues on the floor of Parliament, two of which were the dire conditions of Kebisoni-Kisiizi Road and Rukungiri-Ntungamo Road, both of which required immediate attention.

Hon. Natukunda Midius voiced concern at the plenary called by the deputy speaker, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, on the growing number of potholes on the Rukungiri-Ntungamo road, particularly at Kiborogota, which resulted in the death of a pregnant woman who was about to give birth.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, was also told by the Woman Member of Parliament for the Rukungiri district, Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata about concerns on the manner in which NEMA conducted an operation in Ruhinda Sub County, where individuals’ possessions and crops were destroyed without any form of compensation.

Additionally, Hon. Natukunda informed Parliament that while she was overseeing Rukungiri, she discovered that the leadership, particularly in Buyanja, faced difficulties in transfering parish chiefs and Community Development Officers (CDOs). She claimed that this was a major issue that would hinder the implementation of the new government program, the Parish Development Model (PDM), and she asked the relevant Minister to act quickly.

Additionally, Natukunda told Parliament that action was required to provide aid for the Rukungiri district’s schools including Kyaburere that were destroyed by a strong downpour. The government reacted favorably to this request.

Hon. Midius Kaharata informed the Speaker that students face difficulties obtaining National IDs, particularly as a result of poor networks. She stated that immediate action was necessary to address this issue for the benefit of Ugandan students.
