Holly week kicks off today with calls against hate speech

UGANDA- As Christians begin observing the Holy week, the most sacred time of the year for  Catholics, Protestants and orthodox  communities across the world  Ugandans are  being urged to reflect  and  start campaigning against hate speech and bad mouthing others because of political differences.

This was disclosed by Canon Sam Rogers Wairagala, head of Laity at St Peter’s COU-Kisaasi as hundreds of Christians comprised of families, relatives and friends from the Anglican Church gathered last evening to observe Palm Sunday.

Canon Wairagala says despite differences in religious and political beliefs, non Ugandans have admired the living environment in Uganda and is asking Ugandans to repeat each other’s beliefs and embrace peace and co existence.

Christians have been urged to behave well in this holy week in order to live a better life that gets them closer to God.

The remarks were made by Rev. Fr. Dr. Julius Turyatoranwa the parish priest of Christ the king parish under Kabale diocese  in the mass of celebrating the palm Sunday that marked the end of lent period for Christians.

Fr. Turyatoranwa asked Christians to be faithful to each other and prayerful in this holy week and thanked those that observed the lent period.

Mwesigwa Johnson, the Parish head Catholics under Christ the King Parish thanked Christians for observing lent period through doing charitable works and repenting to God among others. Mwesigwa also highlighted that there is a need for repentance in this holy week as a means of remaining connected to God.
