Mitooma man killed, murderers chop off his body parts

NEWS- The Police in Mitooma District are investigating the mysterious death of a 33-year-old man whose body was discovered in Rwenkuri village. The incident allegedly occurred on April 11, 2025 at around 4:00 AM.

Martial Tumusiime, the Spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi police, identified the deceased as Gaston Mucunguzi, a casual worker and resident of Bweyo village in the Bukongolo Parish of Mutara sub-county.

According to reports, Mucunguzi had dinner with his mother on the evening of April 10, 2025 before walking away to an unknown location. When he did not return home, his mother alerted neighbors prompting a search for his whereabouts.

In the morning, a local community member discovered a body in the water at a nearby Calvert which was later identified as Mucunguzi’s.

The chairperson of Rwenkuri cell, Kellen Atuhaire, indicated that the body was found facing down with several body parts missing.

Police have since conveyed the body to Kitagata Hospital in Sheema District for a postmortem. Tumusiime stated that investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mucunguzi’s death are ongoing and urged anyone with information to come forward.

Relatedly, authorities in Sheema District are on the hunt for unknown assailants following the brutal murder of a 33-year-old man whose body was discovered in a banana plantation. The incident took place on April 10, 2025 in Bubare cell, Mabare ward of Masheruka Town Council.

Martial Tumusiime, pokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi police, confirmed the identity of the deceased as Francis Arinaitwe a local peasant and resident of the area.

Reports indicate that Arinaitwe had just been released from Nyakashambya prison where he had served a one-year sentence for theft. On the day of his death, he met up with a friend, Muhanguzi and the two began drinking together. According to witnesses, Arinaitwe was later escorted home by two other friends, Kyomuhendo and Muhereza.

Tragically, the following morning, at around 7:00 AM, Arinaitwe was found dead in a banana plantation approximately 600 meters from his home. Francis Kempikye, a community member who reported the case to the police, noted that Arinaitwe was dressed in brown trousers and a black and white t-shirt and exhibited visible injuries to his face and arms.

Police have since transported the body to Kabwohe Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem. Tumusiime stated that investigations are underway.
