NEWS. A self proclaimed People’s president Rt. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye and the National Unity Platform NUP principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu have mourned the fallen Archbishop of Kampala and exarch of all Uganda in the Orthodox church, the Late His Emminence Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga.

Besigye described Lwanga as a great moral voice and leader who had the courage, confidence and the moral activism consistent.

The four presidential candidate stressed that it’s worrying that such moral patriarchs are endangered yet they are most needed in Uganda today.

Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu expressed his sadness following the demise of Lwanga whom he said has been an outspoken critic of the injustice and bad governance in the country.

“Not one to sit by and watch as our country careened down the steep slope of dictatorship, Archbishop Jonah has been a consistent voice in pointing out the wrongs of those who hold us captive.

Perhaps his most candidate comment in recent times was when he urged Ugandans to pray for the collapse of Dictator Museveni’s regime, reasoning that only then shall we have peace and prosperity again”, Kyagulanyi narrated.

According to Kyagulanyi, the demise of  Archbishop Jonah raises more questions than answers considering that many other religious leaders prominent for their criticism of the regime have recently passed on under unclear circumstances pointing the examples of Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga of the Catholic Church, Sheikh Nuhu Muzaata Batte and the Bishop Emeritus of Masaka John Baptist Kaggwa as well as Sheikh Anas Kaliisa.

“I send deep condolences to the Orthodox community in Uganda and the world upon this unfortunate occurrence. May God receive you in eternal glory. Rest in peace Archbishop Jonah”, Kyagulanyi noted.
“It behooves us who are still surviving to continue the struggle in which you have been a key participant”, he added.
