Boda boda riders tasked on ensuring their safety

RUKUNGIRI– Hon Naboth Namanya the Rubabo Member of Parliament asked security officers to team up with boda boda riders as a security measure to curb theft and criminality within their communities.

Namanya made the remarks yesterday while speaking as the guest of honor at the opening of Bunuura stage in Rwekigyera cell, Kasheeshe ward in Buyanja town council, Rukungiri district.

Hon Namanya said these are service providers within the communities and they play a big role that would help fight crimes within communities.

The Legislator advised cyclists to always be observant when people approach them for their services and be on the lookout for those carrying dangerous weapons and tools that would be used to take away their lives.

Sp Mbusa Luka the Rukungiri Police Community liaison officer called upon members to develop good relationships with neighbors and to always mark their property for easy identification and recovery once they are lost. Mbuusa condemned violence among families of boda boda cyclists which he attributed to alcoholism and drug abuse.

Julius Kahigiriza the chairperson Rukungiri district boda boda association encouraged Bunuura stage members to work hard and educate their children on top of putting God first in their daily routines.

Kahigyiriza called for mindset change among the riders by investing in projects that will increase their income status.

Tumusiime Julius the chairperson Buyanja boda boda said they have over 2,600 members and asked them to ensure unity and cooperation that will help them develop.
