RUKUNGIRI- In an engaging assembly yesterday, renowned motivational speaker and author, Hilary Igambirine, shared her insights on academic excellence with students at St Joseph Rushasha Vocational SS in Nyakagyeme Sub County, Rukungiri District.
With a captivating blend of personal stories and practical advice, Igambirine who is also the Assistant RDC Bushenyi District empowered students to take charge of their education and strive for success.
In a first ever engagement of this nature funded by the Rujumbura County Legislator and Uganda’s Security Minister Hon Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, Igambirine took the students through setting Clear Goals emphasizing the importance of setting specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals.
He also encouraged students to write down their academic objectives and revisit them regularly.
Additionally, he advised them to embrace a Growth Mindset where he discussed the significance of viewing challenges as opportunities for development rather than obstacles.
Igambirine also took students through developing Effective Study Habits and shared techniques for effective studying, such as breaking study sessions into manageable chunks, utilizing active recall, and creating a distraction-free environment.
The speaker also advised learners to always Seek Help When Needed, Maintain a Balanced Lifestyle, highlighting the importance of balancing academics with extracurricular activities and self-care and surrounding themselves with Positivity by building a supportive network of friends and mentors who encourage and inspire them.

Following the presentation, students expressed their enthusiasm and newfound motivation.
Mary Marriet Kemigisha, the head teacher of St. Joseph’s Rushasha Secondary School, expressed gratitude to Minister Muhwezi and the motivational speaker stressing that the doors are open for him anytime to come back and take them more to similar engagements since the talk was life changing.
