KAMPALA– Following several denials, blame games and gaslighting Ugandans, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has finally rendered an apology for the brutality its personnel inflicted upon civilians during the recently concluded Kawempe North by-election, saying the individuals behind the brutality have been arrested and are under investigation.
The apology was made by Lt. Gen Samuel Okiding, Deputy Chief of Defence Forces while appearing before Parliament’s Defense and Internal Affairs Committee, describing the brutality as “Operational Mistakes” made by individuals who couldn’t control their emotional conscience while under provoked.
The Army’s apology followed concerns raised by Lwemiyaga county MP Theodore Ssekikubo who tasked the UPDF officials to clarify if the Army was infiltrated with wrong elements, since the Commander-in-Chief, President Museveni denied issuing instructions for the Army to brutalize people in Kawempe.

The Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Jacob Oboth again defended the absence of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) from attending committee meetings at Parliament, saying Muhoozi Kainerugaba is “overwhelmed” by the much love he is getting from Ugandans, which has kept him busy both within and outside the country.
