A heartbreaking incident in Sherere Village, Kagati Parish, Rwoburunga Sub County, Mitooma District, has left the community in shock after a local woman, Twinomucunguzi Perepetwa, aged in her 50s, took her own life on February 11. The tragedy unfolded around 8 AM, soon after her children left for school.
According to Bampabwire Naboth, the Chairperson of LC 1 Sherere Village, Perepetwa confined herself in her home after her children departed. She covered herself with blankets, poured petrol over her body, and ignited it. Neighbors were alerted by alarming sounds and rushed to her residence, where they found thick smoke engulfing the house. Upon entering, they discovered that Perepetwa had been burned extensively from her feet to her chest.
Emergency services were contacted, and the Chairperson of LC 3 Rwoburunga Sub County Kansiime Alex, upon learning of the incident, swiftly took action. Perepetwa was transported to Komboni Health Center and subsequently referred to Ncwanga Hospital in Ishaka Bushenyi where she sadly succumbed to her injuries before 4 PM.

Naboth revealed that Perepetwa had been experiencing severe mental distress for approximately two years following the death of her husband, Mponoka Edison. He emphasized the community’s concern for her well-being and indicated that this was not the first time she had attempted to end her life. Perepetwa had previously faced crises, having tried to take her life on different occasions.
The loss of Perepetwa leaves a void in the lives of her six children, the youngest being only 7 years old. Three of her children are currently in high school, one attending Kampala International University, while another is already working. The family has decided to hold her final send-off tomorrow, further highlighting the tragic circumstances surrounding this incident.
