NEWS– The Directorate of Traffic and Road safety has warned motorists to exercise extra caution on the roads as the rainy season sets in.

The caution was sounded by Michael Kananura the Public Relations Officer Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety.

Kananura reminded motorists of the fog, mist, heavy rainfall, flooded roads, & reduced visibility which he said can make driving conditions increasingly hazardous.

He asked motorists to ensure their safety on the Road through maintaining their Vehicle Check tires, brakes and lights in good working condition.

The public relations officer urged motorists to slow down, reduce speed and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.

“Avoid flooded areas, do not drive through standing water as it can be difficult to gauge the depth and may cause your vehicle to stall or be swept away”, he added.

Kananura asked motorists to increase visibility by using headlights  and ensure windshield wipers are in good condition.

According to him, avoiding overtaking especially in poor visibility conditions, pull over if the visibility is extremely poor, finding a safe place to park and waiting until conditions improve will help motorists reduce risks of crushes.
