The Parish Development Model (PDM) is making significant strides in Bugangari Sub County, Rukungiri District, as recent monitoring reveals a lack of challenges compared to other areas in Rukungiri.
A team led by Assistant RDC Mable Mirembe Karazarwe, a team visited Bugangari to assess the program’s impact and found encouraging results across various parishes, including Nyabiteete, Kashaayo, Burama, Bugangari among others.
During the visit, it was reported that substantial financial disbursements have been made to local beneficiaries. Nyabiteete Parish has allocated 299 million Shillings to 300 individuals, while Kashaayo has disbursed 300 million Shillings to an equal number of beneficiaries.
Burama Parish follows closely with 318 million Shillings given to 318 recipients. The successful transfer of funds has left residents optimistic about the positive changes in their lives.
Residents like Mukasa Barikudembe, a farmer in Kashaayo, shared how the funds enabled him to purchase manure and fertilizers, significantly boosting his agricultural yields stating that the money allowed him to improve his harvests with better inputs.
Similarly, Bagamba Moses, a coffee farmer, reported harvesting over 30 bags of coffee after investing one million Shillings to enhance soil fertility and among other beneficiaries like Turyasingura Julius and Mbabazi Shallon echoed these sentiments urging strong support to President Museveni in the coming general elections in 2026
The positive impact of the PDM has also led to the establishment of a Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) in Burama Parish. Mugabe Gard, the SACCO chairperson, explained that the cooperative started in 2023 with fewer than 40 members. It has since grown to 527 members, with a total of 785 shares. The SACCO has already disbursed 318 million Shillings, helping many members improve their financial situations.
Despite these achievements, challenges remain. Gard highlighted the need for a computer to enhance operational efficiency and electricity extension for better service delivery adding that they appreciate the support from the government, but additional resources would help us serve our community better.
The monitoring team commended Bugangari Sub County for its impressive performance in PDM implementation, emphasizing the importance of continuing to support such initiatives. Assistant RDC Mable Mirembe Karazarwe reiterated the responsibility of local leaders to ensure that presidential projects benefit the community effectively.
As the PDM continues to unfold, residents of Bugangari are hopeful for a brighter future, driven by the tangible improvements they have already experienced. With ongoing support and effective implementation, many believe that their lives will continue to change for the better.
