Police in Rukungiri are investigating a fire outbreak where students’ properties worth millions of shillings were burnt to ashes.
According to DPC Rukungiri district Musa Tibakirana he received information of a fire outbreak at Kyamakanda secondary school in Buyanja Town Council Rukungiri district, he responded with the District CID, Fire and rescue, Soco and party and the fire was eventually put off by the Fire and rescue service team to save the whole block from burning.
The incident happened on Friday 17/2/2023 at the school premises.
Tibakirana said that the fire gutted Moon house dormitory that accommodates 54 male students drawn from different classes, it started when all the students were in classes for prep.
After receiving information of the outbreak, 16 Female students collapsed and were rushed to Nyakyibale hospital, Rugarama and Buyanja Health centers for medical attention, police checked on them and were informed by medical personnel that they were in good condition.
Police says the cause of the fire outbreak is not yet established and the scene has been preserved and guarded by police pending reconstruction early morning by District CID, Soco, Fire and Umeme.
Police said Inquiries are ongoing to ascertain the exact cause of the fire outbreak.
