NEWS– Following the tweets made by the Uganda chief of Defence forces CDF General Muhoozi Kainerugaba on his X platform confronting the US ambassador William Popp, mixed reactions sparked among Ugandans.
Among many is the Shadow foreign affairs Minister who is also the legislator for Kyadondo East Hon. Muwada Nkunyingyi who condemed the acts of Gen. Kainerugaba branding them undiplomatic and reckless.
In a letter dated 7th October 2024, Muwada Nkunyingyi condemned “the threats and reckless undiplomatic rhetoric by the Chief of Defence forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba” which he said violates Uganda’s constitutional order and known diplomatic values.
Nkunyingyi also demanded the Ministry of foreign affairs to substantiate if Uganda government through the military intends to attack and harm the US ambassador or intends to destroy the US Embassy in Kampala and for what reasons.
According to Nkunyingyi, the Ministry of foreign affairs must immediately substantiate and retract an apology to US ambassador and the US government.
He said that the development exposes impunity of some state actors and eroded space for rule of law, democratic governance and human rights protection in Uganda.
In now deleted tweets through his verified X platform handle, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba had given the US ambassador to Uganda William Popp up to today (Monday 7th October 2024) at 9:00 am to either apologize to President Museveni or vacate Uganda premises over what he called disrespect and undermining the constitution of Uganda.
