NEWS– The United States of America has trashed claims making rounds on social media that their Ambassador to Uganda William Popp has apologized.
Following Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s threats to expel the US ambassador to Uganda William Popp by Monday 7th October 2024 by 9:00 am if he doesn’t personally apologize to his father President Museveni.
On Monday 7th October 2024, social media platforms were awash with claims that William Popp had apologized to Yoweri Kaguta Museveni purportedly started by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and his allies.
Through their verified X platform handle @U.S. mission Uganda, the United States of America notes that the William Popp apology narrative is completely false and baseless.
According to the U.S, their Ambassador to Uganda William Popp has not received any formal request to apologize from the Ugandan government and neither has their Embassy.
They also noted that William Popp has not apologized to anyone noting that all their official statements are posted on their official platforms.
“This narrative is completely false. Neither the U.S. Embassy nor #Amb Popp have received any formal request to apologize from the Ugandan government on any matter, nor has he apologized. All official statements are posted on our platforms”, the U.S. Mission Uganda posted on their official X handle.
