BUKEDEA-Detectives in East Kyoga Regional Police are currently mounting investigations on their fellow Police Officers at Bukedea Central Police Station following the death of two suspects in their custody.

This comes after the postmortem report from Mbale Regional Referral Hospital indicated that Joseph Okwalinga alias Golola and Michael Ojakol lost their lives   due to serious injuries inflicted on them.

These two suspects died in two separate incidents on January 1, 2022 and police preliminary reports classified the death as suicide.

According to statement that has been released by the East Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson Oscar Gregory, Ageca Ojakol committed suicide in the police cells using his clothes while Okwalinga reportedly fainted during the search for exhibits and died on arrival to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.

The relatives of the deceased then rejected the police preliminary report and started demanding for more explanations about the matter.

The angry relatives stormed the Bukedea CPS demanding answers from the officers yesterday, putting business in Bukedea on a standstill.

Although they were teargased to disperse, they never retreated until the Police leadership gave an audience to selected delegates of the angry community.

Geoffrey Okiswa, the Bukedea Resident District Commissioner RDC narrates that the postmortem report shows that the suspects were tortured and asked the security personnel to investigate the matter.

Now the relatives of the deceased suspects want the Police to compensate the families and also meet their burial expenses and they insist that the bodies can only be laid to rest after the fulfillment of their conditions.
