Police in Rukungiri is investigating circumstances under which three people drowned in River Rushaya Kagorogoro village, Bwambara parish, Bwambara sub county Rukungiri district.
On Saturday 29/04/3023 at about 2:00pm the District CID Rukungiri, SOCO received information about a drowning incident at River Rushaya Kagorogoro village, Bwambara parish, Bwambara sub county Rukungiri district.
it’s alleged that on 29/04/2023 at about 07:00am, a group of people namely; Ngabirano Edson, Kyabasasi Bonny, Birungi Arthur alias Kasingye Maria, Ahereza Brian, Turyasingura, Tibamwenda , Bukoko, Boy, Kadunguyu and Kabale were brewing Local ‘waragi’ at the River bank of River Rushaya.
During the brewing process, the River flooded beyond it’s banks up to people’s plantations/gardens approximately 50 meters from it’s original paths flow known by the locals.
The victims were surrounded by the increasing high speed running floods that led them to start running for their lives where 07 managed to cross the water while 03 drowned to death.
Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate identifies the deceased as Ngabirano Edson male aged 30 years , a Mukiga casual worker a resident of Kagorogoro village Bwambara parish Bwambara sub county Rukungiri district,Kyabasasi Bonny female, aged 64 years , a Mukiga peasant , a resident of the same address and Kabare , still missing in the River waters
Maate said relevant information was got from local leaders and the relatives of the deceased and surviving victims,2 bodies were retrieved, identified with the help of the locals and handed over to their families for burial.Efforts to find the missing body of one Kabare is underway.
