Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen, the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC), has detained two individuals on charges that they demanded money from members of the Nyabitete Parish Development Model-PDM SACCO in Buyanja Sub County.
The Nyabitete Parish Chief Mrs. Ayebare Brender and the Nyabitete PDM Sacco secretary, Kobusingye Penelope, are the accused who are being held at Buyanja Police Station.
The suspects are accused of asking victims for money between Ugx. 30,000 and 50,000 with the promise of assisting them in accessing PDM cash without having to go through the stringent screening procedures put in place by the district officials.
Numerous complaints from their victims to Mr. Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen, resident district commissioner for Rukungiri, led to their arrest.
Following several complaints from the public, RDC Nsubuga called a meeting at the offices of the Buyanja Town Council with the Sacco members and all of the Parish Chiefs from the Buyanja Sub County to discuss how to stop such practices.
RDC Nsubuga, speaking at the meeting, claims that these factors are impeding attempts to properly educate and inspire the people to support PDM initiatives intended to improve their quality of life.
He claims that they are working closely with the district leadership and other responsible security personnels to get rid of any fraud that might impede the PDM’s effective implementation.
By promising to provide them access to PDM finances in exchange for money, he threatened to arrest additional PDM Sacco leaders in Rukungiri district who are practicing the same saying they are well informed about those culprits.
According to RDC Nsubuga, in order to aid in the prosecution of the suspects, a general inquiry file has been established in which complaints from the impacted parties are recorded.
