Rukungiri Municipal Council Launches Four Road Projects Worth UGX 125 Million

In an effort to bolster infrastructure development, Rukungiri Municipal Council, in collaboration with the Office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), has officially launched the construction of four municipal roads. The total project, valued at UGX 125 million, spans 3.5 kilometers and aims to enhance connectivity and accessibility for residents.

The launch event was led by RDC Mr. Kikashemeza Bron, who was joined by various local leaders, including the Mayor, Town Clerk, Municipal Engineers, Area Councilors, and Heads of Departments. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve urban infrastructure, focusing on the pressing need for better road networks in the municipality.

The newly initiated road projects include, Forestry–Kyatoko Road worth UGX 47 million, Kinyasano–Kigina Road for UGX 19 million, Makuru Road for UGX 12 million and Karere–Nyamizi Road worth UGX 47 million

During the launch, the team also conducted inspections of ten recently completed roads, highlighting the progress made in the municipality. Roads inspected included Kakonkoma, Kabahirayo–Miranda, Ndimbirwe–Kagira, Kitimba, Butagatsi, Bunjura, Nyakibale–Katwekamwe, and Karere–Kiziko.

In his address to the community, Mr. Kikashemeza expressed gratitude to the Government of Uganda for its unwavering support toward infrastructure development in urban centers like Rukungiri. He specifically praised community members who voluntarily offered land for the road projects, stating that such contributions not only enhance property value but also foster overall municipal growth.

Kikanshemeza thanked residents who have willingly offered land for public road projects. This gesture not only adds value to your property but also promotes the overall development of our municipality. He said as the Chief Monitor of Government Projects in the district, he will ensure that all the roads launched today will be worked on, as their Bills of Quantities are already in place asuring the people.

Senior Engineer Mr. Nuwamanya Hangson further confirmed that the construction of all four roads is expected to be completed within one month. He reiterated the importance of community cooperation, noting that the donation of land has significantly eased the implementation of municipal projects.

Local leaders, including Mr. Tumwesigye David (Chairperson, Eastern Division) and Ms. Ariho Judith (Councilor, Kyatoko and Northern Ward B), commended the Municipal Council for prioritizing road development. They emphasized that improved infrastructure will play a crucial role in the socio-economic growth of the area, ultimately benefiting all residents of Rukungiri Municipality.
