RUKUNGIRI-There was a drama on Wednesday May 18th 2022 in Runyinya cell, Kagashe Ward, Eastern division in Rukungiri municipality where district and area leadership convened a meeting with residents to bring back harmony in a resident’s family who is accused of witch craft and torture of her husband.
The accused is Mbabazi Costance whom residents suspect to have been bewitching them in addition to torturing her husband Karugaba Peter.
Leaders led by the Rukungiri Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom on Wednesday convened a meeting and summoned Mbabazi Costance to reconcile with residents such that peace can be restored in the area before the situation worsens.
Karugaba Peter the husband to the suspect explained the daily hardships he goes through including torture, beatings on top of conjugal rights Denial all that puts his life in trouble.
Karugaba now fears that he might be killed any time thus calling for help from responsible leaders and government organizations.
Mbabazi Costance in defense denied torture allegations levied onto her by Karugaba stressing that he’s half a man who can’t fulfill his roles of caring for the family to deserve conjugal rights.
On bewitching the residents, Mbabazi confided to the meeting that it’s rather a plot to tarnish her name since she knows nothing about this allegation.
She however requested forgiveness in case anything went wrong for the betterment of their area.
Nuwagaba Moses and Tugume Gelvasio some of the angry residents noted that Mbabazi is not cooperative in addition to disrespecting community members the habit they say must stop.
While addressing the residents, Ongom encouraged married people especially men to always report to police or any other responsible office in case they are being tortured.
Ongom revealed that most men are being mistreated by their wives adding that most of them are afraid of reporting them to Police and other responsible offices urging them that it’s high time they come out and express their hardships so that they are helped in line with the law.
Meanwhile Ongom called upon men to get back and carry out their responsibilities in families such that they can be respected by their wives.
